August 20, 2006 - Back-to-School News

This issue has several broad categories of recent news.  Evolution's house of cards is shaking and may soon come tumbling down for all but the most diehard militant evolutionists.  The more we learn about our world, the more obvious and compelling is the case for design over that of random mutations.  We hope you read to the end and distribute to your friends and family as you see fit.  As you will see, there are people in all walks of life who are making a difference where they can.

SET YOUR TiVo, DVR, or VCR!  Dr. D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian church will air a program titled Darwin's Deadly Legacy, The Chilling Impact of Darwin's Theory of Evolution.   This is scheduled for August 26-27 on The Coral Ridge Hour -- consult your local listings for times and channels.  More information, including a streaming preview, is located at http://www.coralridge.org/darwin/ .  WorldNetDaily reports on it this weekend at: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51603.  This program is a "must see"!

IN THE NEWS:

Another "living fossil" found thriving:  The Chinese Hynobiidaes, which were previously said to have become extinct 300 million years ago, have been found by the hundreds (over 1000 have been located) in the Yanzia township alone.  Local Chinese fishermen, unfettered by Darwinist propaganda, say the amphibians are widespread in many locations in the area.  Read more at:  http://english.people.com.cn/200607/21/eng20060721_285487.html.  Recall that Phil Johnson, writing in the Wall Street Journal, once quoted a Chinese scientist as saying that "In China we can criticize Darwin but not the government. In America you can criticize the government but not Darwin."  (Read Phil Johnson's full article, "The Church of Darwin", at:
http://www.arn.org/docs/johnson/chofdarwin.htm

Scientists Questioning Darwinist Dogma Increasing:   The number of scientists who publicly question Darwinism and encourage critical thinking on the issue has now topped 650. This is up around 30% just in the past few months!  In spite of continued indoctrination by the media, academia, and public schools, increasing numbers of Ph.D.s are realizing that the flaws in a naturalistic Darwinism are growing and may be intractable.  Download or view the list yourself at:
http://www.discovery.org/scripts/viewDB/filesDB-download.php?command=download&id=660

Teachers are Questioning Dogma as well.   It has been reported that rapidly growing numbers of teachers are opting to "just say no" to the National Education Agency and their Texas affiliate.  This is due in part to the NEA's recent support for homosexual marriage and related arrangements, at a time when initiatives in nearly all states are being passed by truly historic landslide proportions against the idea.  While the NEA has a scandalous history of supporting ultra-leftist causes, this may be the 'straw that breaks the camels' back".  Enough is enough and teachers are waking up to the fact that they do not have to send their hard earned money to these far leftist groups. SBOE district 5 primary winner Ken Mercer recently asked educators to

"Please reconsider paying your annual dues to the NEA."  He went on to note that the NEA recently passed numerous resolutions "that attack traditional American family values, deny parental rights and authority, and reject the sovereignty of the United States of America."

For any teachers looking for alternative groups to support, there are several conservative alternative teachers groups that we'll report on soon.  To read Ken Mercer's full letter, go online at:  http://www.texasinsider.org/local_news/Fresh_Ink_Ken_Mercer_08_07_06_Reconsider_Paying_Annual_Dues_to_NEA.htm .  Thanks Ken!

More Americans question Darwinist propaganda.   A Michigan State University study recently found that acceptance of evolution has declined 5% in the past two decades.  We are winning.  Having the Truth on your side helps!  Outside the US, MSU noted that 80% of the French accept evolution (only 40% of the US did in their study.)    The author of the survey noted that

“...individuals who hold a strong belief in a personal God and who pray frequently were significantly less likely to view evolution as probably or definitely true than adults with less conservative religious views.”

Importantly, most of those who believe in evolution also believe that God directed the process in some way.  This is NOT what is in public school textbooks.  The textbooks are catering to the 8% or so of the atheists among us who believe in a godless world, including evolution.

Making a difference in textbooks:  Help for teachers is here!   Critiques of the major biology books used in Texas and other classrooms, with comments tied directly to page numbers of your edition of the book , is located at www.textaddons.com ,  This project is the brainchild of Dr. Charles Voss of LSU.  Scroll toward the bottom of the home page to find your book and edition.  Thanks Dr. Voss!

Making a difference in schools:  All High School & College Biology and Science Teachers:   Many teachers have now received DVD's featuring stunning educational graphics regarding protein synthesis and questioning naturalistic Darwinism in a very powerful presentation.  A biology teacher's comments are excerpted below:

"Thank you so much...I was able to show it to my biology students. We are currently discussing the Origins debate, and it was a perfect addition to the curriculum. I was particularly impressed with the computer animation for the DNA-RNA-protein synthesis mechanism, a concept that is generally pretty difficult for students to grasp. “Where Does the Evidence Lead” is a great presentation of the Intelligent Design perspective, and it was encouraging to hear of evolutionary biologists who have rejected Darwinism and embraced ID. The combination of interviews, video footage, computer animation, and graphics is excellent, appealing and interesting for high schoolers and adults alike."

Should you know someone who can help teach kids the weaknesses of evolution, whether in public or private schools or youth group in your church, please get them a copy.  See www.tbsef.org for more information.

Making a difference with your vote:  Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family recently announced a voter registration and get out the vote drive.  This well organized and completely legal effort will be led by "county coordinators and church coordinators" to encourage pastors to speak about Christian citizenship, conducting a voter-registration drive, distributing voter guides, and get-out-the-vote efforts.  More information may be found at www.ivotevalues.org.  Predictably, the left, who view themselves as so tolerant, are going ballistic.

Making a difference with your pocketbook:  The American Family Association has announced a BOYCOTT OF ALL FORD TRUCKS, cars, and other products.  The AFA, a long-time supporter of Christian values based in Tupelo, Mississippi, took this step due to Ford's financial support for the radical homosexual agenda--something decidedly out-of-sync with most of Ford's typical customers, especially truck purchasers.  Not only has Ford not heeded the AFA calls to cease supporting that unhealthy and destructive lifestyle, they reneged on a promise made to the AFA leadership last November to do so.  They are, of course, free to run the company as they please, but they do so at their shareholder's peril--just ask former Kmart stockholders who faced a similar AFA boycott.    Just this week, Ford announced slashing its truck and SUV production in the wake of staggering losses reported last week.

78 Texas Ford Dealers have written Ford Chairman Bill Ford in essence asking him to talk to and heed what the AFA's criticisms are, in part because consumers who are supporting the AFA's boycott "are besieging us in person, by phone, mail, and email."  (Read the full letter they sent online at: http://www.afa.net/fordtexasletter.asp.  Thank the AFA and join their email list if you haven't done so already.)  And don't buy another Ford.

Others who made a difference:  Darwin's critics continue to grow, but others are turning up from the past as well.   It recently came to our attention that the late Dr. Werner von Braun, called by some the "father of rocket science" for his leadership at NASA in the 1960s and 1970s, thought an unguided Darwinian evolution was "not conceivable".  Quoting from a letter he wrote to the California State Board of Education in 1972, on the heels of the wildly successful Apollo program,

"Certainly there are those who argue that the universe evolved out of a random process, but what random process could produce the brain of a man or the system of the human eye?

Some people say that science has been unable to prove the existence of a Designer.  They admit that many of the miracles in the world around us are hard to understand, and they do not deny that the universe, as modern science sees it, is indeed a far more wondrous thing than the creation medieval man could perceive.  But they still maintain that since science has provided us with so many answers the day will soon arrive when we will be able to understand even the creation of the fundamental laws of nature without a Divine intent.  They challenge science to prove the existence of God.  But must we really light a candle to see the sun? "  [underscore added]

The Houston Area Pastors Council, led by Dave Welch, has issued a blistering denunciation of the decision by two federal judges to remove a Bible from a downtown monument, where it has peacefully been part of a memorial to the founder of the Star of Hope Mission for over fifty years.  The HAPC press release said in part that "the ramifications of this tortured decision are breathtaking and without any historic or legitimate Constitutional rationale."  Just how tortured was the decision you ask?  The two judges ruled that while the monument originally served a "secular purpose" and hence was legal, it had "evolved" [their word, not ours] to become an establishment of religion.

Grassroots vigilance makes a difference--Texas legislators turn down an effort to strip SBOE authority:    In news not covered very well in the mainstream media, part of the special session shenanigans of the Texas legislature included a stealth effort to strip your elected SBOE of authority, and give it to the unelected TEA staffers.  Thankfully, due to a blistering wave of emails and phone calls from folks that found out, the legislation was amended to prevent this.  We can never relax constant vigilance over what our government is doing.  Thanks for your help!

Texas Governor Rick Perry is standing tall in his race for re-election, with the other wanna-be candidates fighting each other or imploding from self-inflicted wounds.  Governor Perry has supported teachers' right and obligation under Texas law to teach weaknesses of evolution, and we would expect he will continue to do this.

More evidence from Colorado:   Diaries and other evidence recently made public from the Columbine High School massacre make it even clearer than before that the killers had a warped sense of helping "speed up" evolution by their actions.  Tell us again just why it is so important to teach our children [wrongly] that they are nothing but random mutations removed from a fish?  For those of you who may be of a theistic evolution persuasion; that is NOT what kids are being taught.  They are being taught a godless, mindless, naturalistic-only explanation of evolution.  The more honest atheists admit that this is a war of worldviews - science vs. science AND religion vs. religion, but decidedly NOT the way the sophomoric ACLU and Americans United for Separation of Church and State like to portray it as [atheistic] objective science vs. biased religion.

Censors (and liars?) win in Kansas:    Four conservative seats were up for grabs and they split 2-2.  This was due to several factors, not the least of which was outright lies on the part of the Darwinists about what the Kansas standards did.  Additionally, the print media spent forests of trees of newsprint and barrels of ink attacking the one conservative incumbent that lost.  Last but certainly not least, voter turnout was abysmally light.  As a result a conservative incumbent was beat, and another "open" seat went to the pro-evolutionist, pro-NEA crowd.  On the plus side, two conservative incumbents did win.  However, the balance of power will now swing to those wishing to censor all science that does not support a Darwinism-is-fact curriculum when the new board takes office in January.  It did cost the opposition dearly.  Reports are that the Darwinists outspent the conservatives 2:1 to 10:1 (and still lost two races to the conservatives).  Further, with all this effort, they hardly garnered any more votes than they had in the past, representing only about 9% (yes, nine percent) of the voting age population.  To put it another way, had only four people more bothered to show up in each precinct, the outcome would have been positive.

A Maryland federal appeals court has unanimously upheld the right of a youth evangelism club to send Christian fliers home in school backpacks.  According to CitizenLink of Focus on the Family, the court held that the school district had engaged in "viewpoint discrimination" by censoring what information was included in the handouts.  We can think of at least one other viewpoint that is being illegally censored in Texas schools at the moment...can you?

As always, thanks for your time and continued efforts to help where you can.

Very truly yours,

Mark Ramsey
